Cool Kids Code

It’s hard to imagine a world without computers. From farming to space travel, start-up companies to school work, technology is integral in all aspects of our lives. What makes it all run is code, the computer language. Educators recommend computer science as a cornerstone of curriculum starting in elementary school to ensure children learn vital coding skills that will unlock their future. Cool Kids Code will provide an introduction to coding using the accessible Scratch program developed at MIT. Students will build their coding confidence and programming expertise through character movement, costumes, sounds, and puzzles along with real-world challenges to keep them engaged. On the last day they will showcase their animated movies and meet coding professionals in the community. This course will be led by Donnelly West, a UC Davis genetics PhD candidate with a passion for education and applied biotechnology and assisted by Marc Krichman, a Crocker/Riverside parent and tech business owner.

  • Date and Times: Monday, March 7th – Friday, March 11th, 2016 from 1:30pm – 3:15pm.  Children will eat lunch prior to attending class (5 DAYS)
  • Location:  Crocker/Riverside Library
  • VolunteerSpot will be sent out for additional parent participants for the program for set up, assistance, and clean up.  Parents welcome to learn with the students if you can join!
